Edelrid Bud Descender – The Classic Reimagined

The Bud is Edelrid’s take on the figure-of-eight descender – one of climbing’s most enduring and trusted tools. No electronics, no moving parts, no complexity. Thread the rope, clip to your harness, descend. That’s it.

What sets the Bud apart from generic figure-eights is the material and build quality. Cast from AL 6066 T6 high-strength aluminium alloy, it handles repeated rappels without the heat buildup and wear you get from cheaper alternatives. The redesigned geometry also gives you better rope control across the full diameter range – from a thin 7.8mm sport rope to a thick 12mm mountaineering rope.

It works equally well as a belay device for bringing up a second on a trad or alpine route. Straightforward, honest gear that does exactly what it’s supposed to.
